Svitolina withdraws from WTA 500 Berlin, Kostyuk moves into main draw

The lineup for the WTA 500 in Berlin has been known for several weeks and is highly enticing. The world's top players have chosen to step up their Wimbledon preparations in the German capital, including Sabalenka, Gauff, Pegula (the defending champion), Paolini, Andreeva, Keys, and Zheng, all of whom will be competing in Germany. However, one top-15 player initially entered in the tournament has decided to withdraw: Elina Svitolina. The Ukrainian, currently ranked 13th in the world, is still expected to compete at the WTA 500 in Bad Homburg the following week, just one week before the start of the London Grand Slam. With this withdrawal, Svitolina's compatriot Marta Kostyuk benefits by moving straight into the main draw. The world No. 26 was originally set to play in the qualifying rounds.
