Cerundolo knocks out Mayot in second Franco-Argentine clash in Madrid

After defeating Moutet in the previous round, Harold Mayot claimed his first Masters 1000 victory. Qualifying for the second round, he faced Cerundolo in another Franco-Argentine showdown. Despite a strong effort, the 23-year-old player fell in 1 hour and 28 minutes of play, exiting the Spanish tournament. Coming through qualifying, the former junior Australian Open champion had eliminated Shevchenko and Boyer to reach the main draw of the Masters 1000. Meanwhile, Cerundolo enjoyed a first-round bye. He now advances to face his compatriot Comesana for a spot in the round of 16. The ATP world No. 21 is in good form, having recently reached the semi-finals in Munich.
