"That's a very good win for me," Opelka reflects on his victory against Medvedev

Reilly Opelka took his chance when it came. Entering the main draw as a lucky loser at the ATP 250 tournament in 's-Hertogenbosch, the American secured his spot in the semi-finals this Friday. After wins against Jesper De Jong and Nicolas Jarry, the former world No. 17—who has struggled with injuries in recent years—delivered a strong performance by defeating Daniil Medvedev (7-6, 7-6) in the quarter-finals. Following the match, the current world No. 87, who lost to Mark Lajal in qualifying, reflected on his victory. "It’s been a good week for me in terms of my serve, especially today (Friday, 24 aces and 0 double faults). When it’s hot like this, the court starts bouncing a lot more and reacts better to the different spins I use on my serve. Medvedev has been one of the best players in the world for the past five years, so this is a very good win for me. The double faults he made at the end of the match were because of my serves. I kept him under pressure by serving really well consistently throughout the match. That’s what caused the three double faults at the end of the tie-break," said Opelka, who will face Zizou Bergs on Saturday afternoon for a place in the final, speaking to ATP media.
