Arthur Fils Exhausted After Defeat: "The Schedule Is Tough, You Have to Play a Lot in a Row"

Arthur Fils was eliminated in the second round in Madrid against Comesana (7-6, 6-4). A surprising loss for the Frenchman, after two consecutive quarter-finals in Monte-Carlo and Barcelona. In the post-match press conference, the world No. 14 reflected on his performance: "I struggled a bit, even in practice here, to control the ball. As the match went on, I missed more and more. All the credit goes to him. He played well, fought hard, and made me work when he needed to. As for me, I missed a lot, a lot. Of course, if I had closed out the first set quickly, it would have been different. But I let him come back a bit, and then the momentum shifted—it wasn’t the same match anymore. It happens. But I won’t dwell on it. I’ve had good weeks, played four solid tournaments. Sure, it’s a loss, like any other loss—it’s always frustrating—but it’s not the end of the world. I’ll have to get back to training. I’m tired. The schedule is tough; you have to play a lot in a row. I’m exhausted. I’ll take two or three days to rest, then we’ll get back to practice."
