Swiatek: "The last few weeks haven’t been easy"

Iga Swiatek overcame Alexandra Eala in her opening match in Madrid, despite losing the first set. It was a revenge match against the Filipino player after her defeat in Miami. In her post-match press conference, she discussed adapting to the local playing conditions: "This was my first match here, and as far as I remember, it’s never easy to adjust to the altitude. During my first training sessions here, it was much colder. Yesterday, it was warmer, but we only had an hour, so it wasn’t exactly the same feeling as during the match. When you don’t start well, sometimes it takes a bit longer to find your game, but I managed to do it, so I’m happy about that. I know how I can play, and I wasn’t playing my game. But honestly, I don’t know—the last few weeks haven’t been easy in general, so I’m trying to relax and focus point by point. I’m trying to regain some confidence and not overthink past matches and points. I know I’m close to finding my rhythm. I felt like I was close in Stuttgart. So, I’ll try to focus point by point." She will face Linda Noskova in the third round.
