Djokovic on the calendar: "We no longer have 4 Grand Slams, but a dozen"
The debate over the length of a professional tennis season is constantly fuelled by players. The latest criticism concerns the majority of Masters 1000 tournaments expanding from one week to a week and a half.
This is something Novak Djokovic was quick to point out: "There are many problems and obstacles in our path. One of them, if not the most important, is the length of the season, which is the longest of any sport in the world.
We start in January and finish almost at the end of November. That’s too long for me. It’s always been this way, but in recent years, with the changes, almost all the Masters 1000s have started lasting not one but two weeks.
If you think about it, we no longer have four Grand Slam tournaments today, but a dozen! Travelling, being away from family and home, it takes a lot of time."
