Cerundolo defeats Mayot in second Franco-Argentinian clash in Madrid

After beating Moutet in the previous round, Harold Mayot secured his first Masters 1000 victory. Having qualified for the second round, he faced Cerundolo in another Franco-Argentinian showdown. Despite a strong effort, the 23-year-old player fell in 1 hour and 28 minutes, exiting the Spanish tournament. Coming through qualifying, the former Australian Open junior champion had eliminated Shevchenko and Boyer to reach the main draw of the Masters 1000. Meanwhile, Cerundolo received a first-round bye. He will now face his compatriot Comesana for a spot in the last 16. The world No. 21 arrives with confidence, having recently reached the semi-finals in Munich.
