Mpetshi Perricard: "We cannot continue like this"

Except for his semi-final in Brisbane, Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard has had a rather disappointing start to the 2025 season. The Frenchman is currently on a streak of 5 consecutive defeats. Recently defeated by Mariano Navone in Madrid, he opened up to *L’Équipe*: "Until 3-3, 0-30, it wasn’t bad. After that, there was a big slump that I can’t really explain. A small hiccup that disrupted what I was doing fairly well until then. I got stuck in a lot of things, I showed the complete opposite of what I do in training. My matches haven’t been great for a while now, we need to figure out why. We’ll have to do a proper debrief and lay out the situation clearly. We cannot continue like this, otherwise we’re heading straight for disaster. It’s the same matches repeating themselves, so there needs to be a change in my game to hope for better results. The most important thing is to stay united with the team and see how we can improve this. Sometimes, on the court, things get a bit blurry, the intentions aren’t very clear anymore, which happens when confidence is low and doubts creep in. We have time before Rome, and we’ll need to improve a lot of things. I don’t think the game itself is really the issue because I play well in training—that’s the most frustrating part. It’s more in the head, but that’s a broad thing, the mind. I hope to be mentally ready for Rome."
