Medvedev Discusses His Current Form: "It's Not About Tennis, But Mostly About Confidence"

Medvedev will begin his Madrid tournament with a second-round match against Djere. The Russian hopes to do better than his quarterfinal run last year. While he doesn’t claim to be a clay-court specialist, the 29-year-old is gradually improving on the surface. In an interview shared by Tennis World Italia, the world No. 11 spoke about his current mindset: "What I love about my career is that you’ve seen me since I was 14, 18, and 21. I’ve always played decent tennis, but I don’t think people believed I would become No. 1 and win a Grand Slam. Right now, I’m almost at 100%. It’s about confidence—it’s no longer about tennis, not a training issue, but about self-belief. That comes with wins, so we need to keep winning."
