Tsitsipas Reveals His Ambitions for the Madrid Masters 1000: "My Goal Is to Reach the Semifinals"

Stefanos Tsitsipas is looking to perform well on clay once again. The Greek player, who dropped out of the top 15 for the first time since 2018 after the first two clay tournaments of 2025, hopes to deliver strong results leading up to Roland-Garros. Defeated in the quarterfinals by Lorenzo Musetti in Monte-Carlo while defending his title, Tsitsipas had no better luck in Barcelona, where he was also defending finalist points. Hampered by a back injury, he retired against Arthur Fils in the quarterfinals after just two games. Set to face Jan-Lennard Struff in his opening match at the Madrid Masters 1000, the 2021 Roland-Garros finalist has set a goal for the tournament in the Spanish capital. He could potentially face Musetti again in the next round if both players advance past their second-round matches. "Given how things have progressed and improved over the last few days, I’m happy with the steps forward. Barcelona wasn’t a great experience for me, but coming into Madrid, I feel ready and will be fully prepared before the tournament starts. My goal is to reach the semifinals, which is probably my standard objective for a Masters 1000. I love playing on clay—it’s the surface that brought me the most success last year. As for my physical condition, staying healthy is the most important thing for Madrid," he told Tennis World Italia.
